Clarity Tax Service 2011 Tax Organizer
Tax organizers are a great way to help you gather – in one place – all the information needed for us to complete your tax return. There are several different kinds here to help you.
First up is a very thorough all-purpose generic organizer, which is eight pages long. Don't be intimidated. You don't necessarily need to fill out all 8 pages. Be sure to fill out pages 1 and 2, and then just the additional pages that directly apply to your situation. You can print this form out and fill it in by hand. Or, if you have one of the more current versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can actually type in your information on-screen, then print it out. (Sorry – we don’t have this rigged so you can save the completed form on your computer.)
Note that if you don't have the Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download and install it – for free – with the link we provide here.
Business Use of Home
Do you use your home for business purposes? If you use a portion of your home – a room or two, or even a well-defined portion of one room – “regularly and exclusively” for business, then we may be able to reduce your taxes. This is also true even if you work for someone else (a W-2 job), but that employer requires that you provide your own office. If this describes your situation, then please complete our Business Use of Home Organizer.
Business Use of Vehicle
Do you use your car (or cars) for your business or job? If so, please complete our Auto Use for Business or Employment organizer.
Deduction Checklists by Profession
Whether you work for yourself, or for someone else, you may have many deductible expenses that could easily be missed and forgotten as you gather your documents for tax season. These organizers can help. They are not absolutely comprehensive: you could easily have other expenses not listed here. But they are a great start, a way to prod your memory and help you get all the deductions you’re entitled to. As time goes on we’ll add more professions to the list, but these 10 will help get you started. If you don’t see your profession on the list, just pick the one that might come closest.
